The Inn of Gort

Many a years ago, when the Emperor still sat upon his throne, there was an incident at the Inn of Hogdamer Gort.

During spring, folks used to travel towards Salen to the Festival of Flowers. On one such spring, to the Inn of Gort arrived 3 women, women of the Istari who sought shelter to the Inn. The keeper proud and patriot denied the old ladies entry and instead housed them in the barn besides the horses and goats.

At the same time, a noble man and his wife stayed in the Inn. Their son was ill and they were traveling north to the Hot Springs to heal him. During the evening the Lord went to oversee the preparation of his horses and saw the 3 women. At once, he paid the Innkeeper to remove them because, as he said, they were affecting his son health, so the Innkeeper casted them away in the darkness of the Thousand Hills.

Later that day a group of bandits attacked the Inn. While the men were defending the Inn, the women and children hid in the cellar. After seeing the battle was being lost in the cellar hid the Keeper and the Lord leaving the other men to die. The pillars of the Inn then broke. And half the roof fell sealing the cellar exit.

2 days passed. On the dawn of the 3rd the Istari Women reached the Inn on their way back from the Fair. They saw the damaged Inn and went curious to witness the cause of the collapse. There they heard the calls for aid from below. The women asked for a price to set them free.

-         The Lord promised gold and land
-          The Innkeeper promised silver, food and free rooms
-          The other women spoke not for they had nothing to give.

The 3 women then discussed and decided that no offer was good enough because they wanted trust and respect for them and their kin. But, they agreed on something, to punish the greediness with death and fire.

Hearing that, the lady begged for her son’s life calling him innocent and still capable to learn. The women were too far to hear though and the fire was already burning and trapped as they were all choked to death.

And such they say now, that the Inn of Hogdamer Gort is haunted by the angry and damned souls of the greedy and hateful…
